Which web browser do you use?

Writing such a post as this might seem like such an obvious way to get a lot of comments. And that’s just what it is!

I was looking at the visitor statistics for my web site for the latest year, and specifically the statistics for web browser usage. Granted, most visitors here are web developers and therefore use a wider spectrum of web browsers, so this is probably not reflecting the visitors to a more mainstream web site.

Anyway, I wanted to share my statistics and then compare with the comments to see if it seems about right, and any other connection such as if a person using a certain web browser is more comment-prone, who are regular readers etc.

My statistics

Firefox: 53.19%
Internet Explorer 32.84%
Safari 7.88%
Opera 3.38%
Others (Mozilla compatible, Camino, Konqueror etc): 2.71%

I’m still on Safari. Camino is the only runner up. The rest of the browsers just became too slow, especially when starting the app.

Always Firefox. I love Shiira for Mac, it’s probably the fastest browser I’ve ever seen, but every time I try a new browser I come back to Firefox after a while, mostly because of its plugins.

i confess usually ie6… but opera and firefox are used a bit too…

i am evil and feel so dirty but when i look up its ie6 that’s open…

actually that’s all true and i generally use IE simply out of habit

I use Firefox because I can start it up on any OS and set it up the way I want it to be so I get the same experience no matter what computer I’m using. However, every so often I’ll end up with a Safari window open on my Mac, because it’s so fast and I’m too lazy to tell my applications to open links in Firefox.

At home I use a recent nightly of Camino.

At work I usually develop against Firefox, with occasional switches to IE6, IE7 or Opera for testing purposes.

Firefox 2 on the Mac… I used to have a PC and used Firefox on there and I tried Safari when I made it to Mac, but it wasn’t the same and I changed back.

Firefox 3 and Opera 9.5 alphas for general browsing, IE5/6/7 as required for IE-only sites (found somewhere recently that only let IE5 use its shopping basket…), Firefox 2+Firebug for primary development, and various other Gecko, Webkit and Presto based browsers for testing. Oh, and except for the fact that I don’t know how to run Safari/Webkit under Linux, there’s not a lot of difference between my Windows and Linux browsing habits.

Firefox with Firebug for development and browsing. IE7 to read Hotmail. IE6 at work for testing (that’s what they use, Firefox for browsing). Treo Blazer with Bloglines to read blogs.

I can not imagine why a web developer would ever use any incarnation of the evil IE family. It fucks up nearly every layout and it’s impossible to debug anything in it. I’m a full time firefox user, but I’m open to anything else that is good.

I have no problem stating that I use IE7 for browsing, and FF1.5 for testing… and that’s only because of the excellent Web Developer Toolbar.

Opera & firefox, safari for browsing (mostly in that order)
IE 6 & 7 for testing

funny how Opera hasn’t really succeeded in expanding their marketshare after going ad-less. Probably too little too late?

It seems like Firefox is, not surprisingly, the most popular amongst my readers. But this means that (most) IE users are either afraid to state that they use IE, or are basically the ones finding this web site through Google rather than being constant readers.

FF2 for browsing, testing and development.
Nothing beats Firebug for CSS and JS for quick hacks.

Opera is great but lacks my favourite extensions: Adblock, firebug, Web developper toolbar, Tidy, Colorzilla, Google image relinker, save as image, Fullerscreen, dragdropupload and download statusbar.
Also keyword searches for looking up a definition, on Amazon or wikipedia, recipes, whatever.

Safari windows and IE7 make my eyes burn with their antialiasing, but I’m very grateful for their standards compliance!

Both Ffox and Opera. I love them all. Rarely using ie6 just 4 testing some development in my experiment
for mobile browser IM using Opera mini 4 (can’t live without it)
