And for those of you that are as thick as me, download the file.
Right click it, choose “Open With…” and then choose firefox.
That should give you the extension installation window, that we all know and love

Yep, I had the same experience.
Had to remove the Firefox folder in Application Support, even.

Manually installing fixed it here, too.

I had trouble with this on OS X Tiger, but downloading the update manually (I guess of version 0.8.4.1, I can’t check at the moment as I’m at work) sorted all the problems out. I’m glad it did as well… HTML Validator is one of my favourite plugins!

The new update did not work in Linux as well - got this error…

Anthony,

The add-on updater alerted me of the update, and installed 0.8.4 automatically. Therefore I removed it, since it didn’t work.

Tried your tip and did a clean install of 0.8.4.1, and it seems to work so far. If it’s consistent I will update the post. Thanks for the tip!

Have you tried version 0.8.4.1?
It is supposed to be the one for Mac OS X…

I haven’t tried it yet, as I am at work, and sadly on Windows XP…
